# Fees

Fees are the cost of sending a transaction over a network. Fees are paid to miners as a reward for their work when validating payments, a bit like a postage stamp; a higher fee ensures prompt delivery as miners are incentivised to secure blocks with more lucrative returns.

It is worth noting that fees occur regardless of the consensus method used to validate transaction blocks, meaning that they are always present when using digital asset networks.
